Sapphire Blue Freshwater Sea Glass/Beach Glass Flower Pendant

     I created this one of a kind, eco friendlier wire wrapped Beach Glass pendant with solid Sterling Silver and a rare piece of sapphire / cobalt blue Beach Glass, also called Lake Glass or Freshwater Sea Glass, from Lake Ontario, near my home.

       I decoratively wrapped the lovely piece of blue Beach Glass with lot's of Sterling Silver wire like to create an almost star design and then created a floral design around the outside with 31 x 2mm round Sterling silver beads. The flowing flower like design looks like waves around the blue glass.  

     This rare piece of pale sapphire almost cobalt blue is very rare here, so I treat them like gems. This pendant is substantial with lot's of silver, it measures (30mm x 23mm) 1 3/16” x 14/16”. 

      The pendant dangles on a high quality, Italian Rollo style, Italian Sterling Silver chain. This necklace fastens with a spring ring clasp.

     I found this precious piece of Aqua Blue beach glass while walking by the lake (Lake Ontario) near my home in Port Credit.

      I wrapped the rare sapphire/cobalt blue color glass with a Sterling Silver wire to create a design that represents the movement of water, never ending waves around the glass and then a flower like the wildflowers growing along the beach. 

     I feel a sense of peace when I can repurpose an old, discarded piece of broken glass that has been beautifully transformed by nature into a satiny smooth treasure. I use the glass just as I find it on the beach, it has not been drilled, polished, or altered in anyway.

      Freshwater Sea Glass also called Beach Glass is more rare than Saltwater Sea Glass. It takes at least 50 years to form the satin finish in the lake compared to the oceans with salt water and stronger waves.

Beach glass is an eco friendly, sustainable alternative to gemstones.

     Transformation is a major theme and inspiration in my work, taking something old, broken or discarded and creating something new, beautiful, and valuable.
     It brings me peace and immense joy to create Sustainable, Eco Friendlier jewellery by Upcycling and Re-purposing old, vintage, broken Sterling Silver jewellery whenever possible.
