Celtic Blue Lapis Lazuli Chandelier Earrings
I was inspired to create am elegant pair of Celtic Inspired Earrings with these gorgeous Vintage Blue Lapis Lazuli gemstone beads and 925 Sterling Silver. I wanted to bring new life to these genuine vintage blue gemstones. Most blue lapis these days are dyed, so I am thrilled to use old gemstones with intense blue color.
The shape of the earrings with swirls that represent life, growing, evolving, a joyful life! The texture represents the passage of time along with the Celtic symbolism in the wire work below the dangling stones with the Trinity Knot on the centre stone and Eternity Coils on the outer two stones.
I used new and Repurposed / Upcycled Sterling Silver, but, the Blue Lapis Lazuli are all Vintage, Earth Friendly and Ethical gemstones.
I wanted these long Chandelier style earrings to have a lot of movement along with the symbolism and elegant design to radiate joy, to bring new live to these precious blue Gemstones.
These one of a kind earrings are long, but they are lightweight and comfortable for everyday, for any occasion from formal to everyday you can enjoy them.
Transformation is a major theme and inspiration in my work. I love to create Eco Friendlier jewellery by Up-cycling / Re-purposing old Vintage Gemstones, Silver and more. It brings me peace to work with more Ethical materials and great joy to transform them into new creations, heirloom jewellery to be worn and loved for many years.
BLUE LAPIS LAZULI is a very special gemstone, prized for thousands of years for its incredible, intense ultra marine blue color. The name comes from the combination of two words; the Latin word for stone 'Lapis' and the Arabic word 'Azula” which mean blue.
These stones have adorned priests and royalty, as jewellery and cosmetics, clothing and as ornaments, to decorate palaces, holy temples and more.
The vibrant blue stones were, ground into powder to pigment cloth for royal robes, used in art, etc. It is said that Cleopatra used the ground blue Lapis powder to enhance her eyes and it has been used in art for thousands of years in around the world. Prized by the renaissance painters like Michelangelo who used it to pigment his paint for the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel and Johannes Vermeer in his painting “Girl with Pearl Earring”.
Blue Lapis Lazuli is thought to be one of the gemstones in the breast plate of High Priest, from the holy scriptures in Bible (Exodus 28:15-21). Lapis Lazuli was often called Sapphire thousands of years ago and is one the traditional September Birthstones long with sapphire.
Blue Lapis is made up of mainly Lazurite, calcite and pyrite. The deep blue gemstone has little sparkly particles of Pyrite most of the time and sometimes it has little bits of white Calcite. The highest quality stones are almost completely blue, but, now most Lapis Lazuli has been treated and dyed to enhance its color.
These lovely Celtic earrings will bring you so much joy, you will feel great knowing that you purchased eco friendlier, vegan friendly jewellery, perfect for yourself or for an eco conscious friend.
